The plan is to make our way from Tierra del Fuego up to Venezuela. According to the waypoints on the map it is 6600 miles, but we're not sure we believe this. The route is more mountainous and the roads are rougher than on the chinacycle trip so we might be going a little slower. Basically the plan will evolve as we go along so don't be surprised if we go completely off route!

Equipment

Me and bike We are taking pretty much the same as on the last trip, but obviously catering for two rather than three. Gone is the single tent and a few other non essential items. For a full kit list, including our bike specifications click here

Visas

The good news is that visas are easy in South America, so hopefully there will not be a repeat of the 3 month Iranian visa fiasco. At present (December 2006) British citizens do not require a visa for Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil and Venezuela (ie all the countires on the route). A stamp valid for 90 days is issued at the border. Yay.

Money and budget

Having not really had a proper jobs for a while now we're a little short of funds, but seeing as we're both bound to have enormously succesful careers, we don't mind going into a bit of debt. Apart from flights we're only paying for food and the odd bit of accomodation when we can't camp. Last time Dave was in South America he spent about £10 per day, which included bus travel, booze and hostels every night (albeit grotty ones). Therefore he reckons that we can easily get by on £5 per day, roughly equivalent to a large coffee in London.

Training

Training is for girls.
